I LOVE TO SEE THE TEMPLE!

On Aug. 11th, 2026, we finally were able to see the inside of the much-anticipated Cambodia Phnom Penh temple! We had a special missionary devotional with El. and Sis. Gong, as well as the area presidency and their wives. What a privilege to hear and shake hands with one of the 12 Apostles! Afterwards, we were able to have a tour through the new temple, the first one in Cambodia. The minute I walked through the front doors, I was awed by an incredible feeling of God's love for his Cambodian people here. There is a special sacredness present. This temple has been a long time coming and represents such a brightness of hope after such a dark past. What a true JOY to be here on our missions at this special time!! Once again, we feel like the timing of our mission was incredibly fine-tuned to be perfect for us personally!

The temple decor really spoke to me - dusty purple with light green and accents of yellow and pink. The stained glass windows were breathtaking, using a traditional Cambodian flower. Even the ceilings were elaborately finished in details of beautiful colors! The artwork called out to me. In the front entry was a landscape picture of rice fields that could have been a setting right in Kampong Speu. The baptismal font had oxen heads carved out from a slab vs. the whole body - different approach! It has six spires, one of only two temples with this feature. It incorporates Cambodian feel throughout in its beautiful architecture. It's a small temple, but perfectly thought through for its layout. The outdoor landscaping also is very inviting. And it is located right on one of the main streets. How did the church ever get that perfect location?! I was amazed at the sound-proofing that was effectively used, thank goodness, with the very noisy street of high action right out it's doors. It is beautiful in every way!

The Open House officially started later that week, with much media and attention from the government officials. Report after report has been flooding local news and Church News. Such respect was shown both by temple volunteers and by community leaders. It has been well received.

On Aug. 19th, we arranged a group of 75 people from Kampong Speu, to go together to the Open House (including 10 of our exercise group that walks the borrey!). 75!! That was an unexpected turn out!! Yay for these elders promoting the opportunity on every front. We had two large catered buses to accommodate them. We also made snacks bags for them to enjoy on the way. We guessed at a time that might be less busy, and it turned out perfectly - a Wed. afternoon 4:00 time. Good thing! The Saturday before had 2,600 people go through! What a different experience for us as we were able to enjoy the peace of each room and take pictures outside without feeling rushed or crowded. Everyone commented on the beautiful feeling.
